This degree is the ideal launching pad for you to play a significant role in the animation and visual effects industries in Australia and abroad. Using top-of-the-line hardware and premium industry-recognised software, you’ll produce original animated projects from concept to delivery. Griffith University is an officially recognised Toon Boom Centre of Excellence, which verifies the Griffith Film School Bachelor of Animation meets a high standard of depth, breadth and quality. Learn skills in concept development, storyboarding, 2D, 3D and stop motion character animation, editing, sound recording, visual effects, virtual production, post-production and motion capture. Develop a strong foundation of drawing, screen analysis, scriptwriting and animation principles, and enhance or diversify your skillset by pursuing one of the following majors: character animation; art direction; post production, virtual production and VFX, 3D art and environments, writing and development. Access an exciting calendar of on-campus exhibitions, guest lectures, master classes and artist talks delivered by local and international experts.

Important offer advice: Should you receive an offer into this program you will be required to enrol into classes* within a short timeframe. This information will be included in your Starting@Griffith email and expressed in the number of days from the day of issue of your email and is in line with the offer response date in your QTAC offer email. Please note that the number of days can vary depending on when the offer was made. This requirement applies irrespective of whether you accepted conditionally or unconditionally. If you do not enrol* into at least one class for your program by 5pm on the response day your offer will lapse. Lapsed offers are not automatically reinstated and reinstatement is subject to available places. *Enrolling into classes means that you are advising when you are attending class/es. Enrolment must be submitted.

Prerequisites

Applicants must meet the minimum age requirements for admission, see the QTAC website for details.

Fixed closing date

Trimester 1 – applications and portfolios must be submitted by 3 October 2025.

Trimester 2 – applications and portfolios must be submitted by 22 May 2026.

Applicants who apply after these dates may be considered via ATAR/Rank should places still be available. Late applicants should refer to the Portfolio Admission website.

Additional entry requirements

Admission to the Bachelor of Animation is via portfolio. Limited offers may be made in later rounds via ATAR/rank should places remain.

Admission via portfolio requires applicants to submit a portfolio directly to Griffith University via an online submission portal. Visit the Portfolio Admission website for up to date messaging and information on portfolio requirements including how to pay for and submit your portfolio to Griffith University.

Guaranteed Admission Schemes do not apply to this program.
