Two inner-city campuses

Queensland Year 12 Early Offer Scheme
This scheme provides more certainty about your future with an offer to study at QUT before you receive your ATAR or IB Diploma. If eligible, you’ll receive an offer for your QTAC first preference the day you complete Year 12. More than 70 single and double degrees are included. Visit qut.edu.au/study/early-offer.

Admission Criteria
To be eligible for admission to QUT you must have completed Australian Year 12 (or equivalent) or be applying on the basis of previous study or work/life experience.
When applying for QUT courses, you should consider:
- assumed knowledge of a subject area and/or subject prerequisites
- English language proficiency
- additional entry requirements– for some courses, such as auditions, interviews, portfolios or personal statements addressing suitability criteria.
For most of QUT’s courses, you are selected on the basis of an ATAR or selection rank.
An ATAR is your state-wide rank order in relation to other students. It indicates how well you have done in comparison to all other ATAR-eligible students and is used for tertiary entrance purposes only. The maximum ATAR is 99.95.
A selection rank is allocated based on any assessable qualifications you may have including past school results, work experience, previous non-secondary study, etc. The highest selection rank is 99.95.
Selection ranks can be assigned to each of your individual qualifications and experience. QUT will generally use the best of the ATAR/selection ranks to assess your eligibility.
QUT Year 12 Early Offer Scheme
To help provide some certainty about your future study plans, we have the QUT Year 12 Early Offer Scheme for Queensland Year 12 students.
This scheme includes around 80 single and double degrees from a wide range of study areas including business, creative industries, engineering, health, and science.
Entry is based on your Year 12 grades to date, and if eligible, you will receive your QUT early offer from QTAC on .

Guaranteed admission
The QUT offer guarantee provides you with more certainty about your study options. If your ATAR or selection rank is equal to or higher than the offer guarantee, you’ll have peace of mind knowing you’ll receive an offer into the course.
If you have a completed Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) diploma or certificate IV, you are also guaranteed an offer to many QUT courses. If you have an AQF certificate III, you are guaranteed an offer to many of our diploma or combined diploma/degree programs.
To receive an offer as part of the offer guarantee you must meet all other course requirements and include the course in your QTAC preferences. The offer guarantee ATAR/selection rank is inclusive of adjustments (such as educational disadvantage, elite athlete or Year 12 subject adjustments) and applies to most courses.
Even if you don’t think you’ll achieve the guaranteed ATAR or selection rank, you can still apply for the course. The final threshold for the course is determined in January and can be lower than the guarantee, so you may receive an offer.
Upgrading pathways are available if your ATAR or selection rank isn’t high enough to enter your chosen course.
The Offer Guarantee status for each course is listed on the QUT course website.
The guarantee is available to all applicants, including those with higher education, VET, bridging or enabling studies and/or work experience.
Applicants do not need to apply separately for the Offer Guarantee as it forms part of your QTAC application.
You are selected on the basis of your ATAR or selection rank for most courses. Selection ranks can be assigned to each of your different qualifications. QUT will generally use the best of the ATAR/ranks to assess your eligibility for an offer.
QUT recognises that success at tertiary level in one course can be the most reliable predictor of future success in other courses. Successfully completing one-year full time in a degree course is the most effective and reliable way to gain a more competitive selection rank. A full-time year is defined as the standard credit point load that applies to a year of study in a course at their institution. Units with incomplete results and any units for which exemption or credit for prior learning was applied do not count toward the full-time year. For current QUT students a full-time year is 96 credit points.
All degree (or higher education) applicants will be considered if you have completed a minimum of at least one-quarter of a year of full-time study or equivalent.

QUT recognises a number of other bridging and enabling, tertiary preparation and foundation programs offered by education providers across Australia and the Pacific. You must have successfully completed one or more semesters of full-time study in one of these programs for it to count towards the selection rank for a QUT application.

Completed Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) awards of certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma can be assigned a selection rank for entry to QUT undergraduate degree courses. A completed Certificate III can be assigned a selection rank for entry to QUT Diploma courses.
Where you have several selection ranks calculated (e.g. ranks based on Year 12 results, VET study, higher education studies, employment), you will generally be considered on your highest selection rank.
Exceptions may apply to some courses and courses with additional entry requirements.

QUT will consider you for entry on the basis of professional qualifications and/or paid employment experience.
Your selection rank may be improved by good results in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT).

If you’re a current Year 12 student or completed Year 12 in the previous years and have not undertaken any further studies or work experience, you’re considered a recent school-leaver. For most of our courses, your entry will be based on you past academic achievement, represented by your ATAR or selection rank. Some courses have additional entry requirements.
Current International Baccalaureate (IB) students will be assigned a selection rank based on their IB Admission Score (IBAS) from their IB Diploma completed in Australia. IB students who completed their diploma overseas and prior to 2022 in Australia will be considered on their IB Score. As agreed by admissions centres around Australia, the IB score is converted to a ‘combined rank’. The combined rank is on the same scale as the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank). This is then converted to QTAC selection rank. IB Diploma students will be considered for an offer based on this selection rank. IB Career Certificate and incomplete IBD may be assigned a selection rank for QUT diplomas courses. For more information, visit International Baccalaureate (IB) Studies.
Results from Home Schooling, Accelerated Christian Education and other non-standard Year 12 programs (with SAT tests) may also be assigned a selection rank and considered for an offer based on this selection rank (or other recognised qualifications undertaken while at school).
Applicants with Overseas Year 12 Study
QUT will consider equivalent overseas Year 12 qualifications for admissions purposes. Contact QUT for more information. If you have secondary or tertiary qualifications from countries where English is not the standard language of instruction, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency.
Other Qualifications Completed in Year 12
Students who have an ATAR or completed IB Diploma can also be assigned a selection rank for other recognised qualifications completed when at school such as completed competency-based and graded AQF Certificate IV, diplomas or higher education study for consideration for entry to QUT degree courses. A completed Certificate III can be assigned a selection rank for entry to QUT Diploma courses. Entry would be based on the best of these ATAR/selection ranks.
You are also required to meet any relevant subject prerequisites for the course you are applying for. This will be satisfied by successful completion of Senior secondary subjects (or equivalent). Any additional entry requirements must also be satisfied.

Domestic students with overseas qualifications
QUT will consider equivalent overseas qualifications for admissions purposes. Please contact QTAC for more information about how overseas qualifications will be assessed for entry. If you have secondary or tertiary qualifications from countries where English is not the standard language of instruction, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency.
English language proficiency
QUT requires students to demonstrate that they can speak, write, read and comprehend academic English to a specified standard. If you have an Australian Year 12 qualification, you meet the English proficiency standards.

Timing of offers
QUT makes year round offers for most courses. Semester 1 QTAC offers will take place between October and February, while Semester 2 QTAC offers will occur between April and June. Summer offers to some diploma courses will take place between August and November.
Offers
You are notified of your QUT offer by email and must respond to your offer online by the due date. QTAC applicants accepting their offer enrol at QUT via a link in their QTAC application.
Deferment
You can usually defer the commencement of your course for one year. Find more information about deferment on QUT’s website.
