You can apply for the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) if you are applying for tertiary study through QTAC. You don’t have to be in Year 12 or currently studying to apply for the Educational Access Scheme (EAS), but most of the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) categories relate to circumstances that affect your most recent studies.

Most institutions offer scholarships, including equity scholarships that assist regional students, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, and students from low-income backgrounds to access study. You must apply to the institution directly for most scholarships, except: QUT’s Q-Step Scheme and UQ’s Queensland Commitment Scholarship. For these two, apply for the Financial Hardship category of our Educational Access Scheme in your QTAC application.

Adjustments may be applied for factors such as performance in certain Year 12 and university subjects, living or attending school in a certain location, sporting achievement and consideration through QTAC’s Educational Access Scheme (EAS).

To apply for the Rural Access Scheme, complete the cover sheet and submit it to QTAC with your supporting documentation as soon as possible.

Location adjustments are made based on your proximity to the institution offering the course or courses you’re applying for. For example, some institutions give you additional points for being a local resident, or for living in a regional or remote area. Location adjustments are made to your QTAC application automatically, after you apply.

You may get a rank/ATAR adjustment for successfully completing specific Year 12 subjects. The adjustments are automatically added to your ATAR or selection rank on your QTAC Application and can make you more competitive. For detailed subjects and adjustments information, please contact an institution directly.

A selection rank is used to determine how competitive your application is relative to other applicants for the same course. The selection rank can be based on the ATAR, IBAS, VET qualifications and more. It might be altered by adjustment factors or other selection criteria relevant to the course. To confirm your final selection rank, you will need to call QTAC on 1300 467 822.

Adjustment factors are additional points that may be added to your ATAR or other eligible qualifications to calculate your QTAC selection rank for specific courses.

Adjustment factors do not change your ATAR. Instead, they are used to calculate your selection rank, which institutions use when considering your application for a course. Depending on the institution’s rules, adjustment factors may improve your selection rank and increase your chances of receiving an offer.

Your adjustment factors and adjusted selection rank are not displayed in the ATAR Portal. If you have questions about your selection rank or the adjustment factors that may apply to you, contact QTAC for assistance.

Regardless of your age, you are required to meet all entry requirements to be considered for a program. Generally, you’ll need an eligible qualification before an institution will make you an offer. For example, institutions may look at your Year 12 studies, your results in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT), or your employment experience.

The minimum selection threshold displayed on the Course Search page (where applicable) is the lowest rank (ATAR or QTAC selection rank) that received an offer for that course in the most recent offer round. It provides an indication of the minimum rank required to receive an offer, but thresholds may change between offer rounds depending on applicant demand and the number of places available.

Meeting the entry requirements means you are eligible to be considered for a course, but it does not guarantee you will receive an offer.

If there are more eligible applicants than available places, institutions will rank applicants based on their selection rank. Your chances of receiving an offer will depend on how competitive your selection rank is compared with other applicants for the same course.

Yes, most institutions offer pathway courses for applicants who don’t meet the entry requirements for bachelor programs, or who need further support or preparation before studying at a bachelor degree level. Check out our enabling and bridging page for pathway assistance.

Prerequisites are successfully completed QCE subjects (or equivalent) for Unit 3 and Unit 4, in which a student must achieve a minimum grade of C (or equivalent) to be eligible for selection into a course.

A QTAC Application is only valid for the admissions period for which you are applying. If you wish to lodge a new application for the next admissions period, login to your account and submit a new application.

You can only submit one QTAC application in each admissions period. If you change your mind about what you want to study, you can simply change your course preferences.

Yes, you can only receive one offer in each offer round based on your highest eligible preference. If you list mid-year intakes above semester one intakes, you will only be considered for these semester two courses. Visit the Preferences page for further information on ordering your preferences.

Make sure you order your preferences carefully, so you don’t miss out on what you want to study.

• Preferences 3 and 4 should be backup courses you want to study that are considered less competitive,

If you receive an offer, QTAC will notify you by both SMS and email. You will generally have four days to respond to your offer. If you do not respond by the deadline, your offer will expire, you will lose your offer rights, and you will no longer be considered for any other course preferences. If this happens, please contact us for assistance.

You can use employment experience as a way to obtain a QTAC selection rank to improve your chances of getting into a course. Your employment experience does not have to relate to the course you want to study, unless specified. If you do not wish to use employment as the basis of your application, you can simply leave this out. If you have already listed this, you can request that we disregard it from your application.

Institutions will select specific dates throughout the year on which to make offers for their courses. These dates are called offer rounds. Different institutions make offers on different dates. To find out what dates your chosen institution is making offers, check out our Key Dates page.

You should still list qualifications if you are currently in the process of completing study. Once your application has been lodged you may be asked to provide evidence of your results. You can contact us when your results are available, so we can update your application.

Your employment experience must be substantiated by copies of statements from your employers. Each employer’s statement must include all details listed below. Statements missing any details cannot be assessed:

Yes. However, your course preferences are considered in the order you list them.

If you receive an offer for your highest preference, you will not be considered for your lower preferences in future offer rounds unless you change the order of your preferences.

If you want to be considered for other courses, you must move those course preferences above the offer you have already accepted before the closing date for the next offer round.

If you receive an offer for a lower preference, you will continue to be considered for any higher preferences in future offer rounds, provided you have conditionally responded to your offer.

Conditionally accept your offer before it expires. If you don’t respond to your offer and you don’t receive an offer in a future round, you may miss out on studying at university this year. Conditionally accepting your offer doesn’t stop you from being considered in future offer rounds unless it is your first preference.

There are two ways to respond to an offer through QTAC: conditionally or outright.

A conditional response allows you to accept your offer while remaining eligible to be considered for higher course preferences in future offer rounds. If you receive an offer for a higher preference in the same semester, your new offer will replace your previous offer.

If you receive an offer for your first preference, you cannot respond conditionally because there are no higher preferences to be considered for. If you want to remain eligible for other courses, you must reorder your preferences before the next offer round.

An outright response (accept, defer or reject) finalises your response to the offer. Once you respond outright, you will no longer be considered for higher preferences in future offer rounds.

You can accept your new offer before withdrawing your enrolment from the first institution. However, ensure you follow the institution’s procedures for withdrawing your enrolment by the appropriate census date, otherwise you’ll be charged fees.

There could be a few reasons you did not receive an offer. If it is because you did not meet a mandatory eligibility requirement, you can find out what this is through your dashboard. You can click on your preference details to check if you do or do not satisfy the relevant entry requirements.

You can conditionally respond to an offer you have received if it is not your first preference. You can choose to either accept, defer (where applicable) or decline an offer, and choose to save this as a conditional response. This means you have reserved your response to this offer while you wait to see if you may be eligible for higher preferences in later offer rounds.

If you are successful in receiving an offer; you will be sent both an SMS and an email to alert you to this. After you receive an offer, you generally only have four days to respond. Once this time has passed, your offer will expire and your offer rights are no longer relevant. You will also not be considered for any other courses. Deferring an offer allows you to put your start date on hold for a 12-month period. If you wish to change the time frame to a shorter or longer period, discuss your options with the relevant institution. Some institutions don’t allow deferment, or don’t allow deferment for certain courses. You can find out if your course is eligible for deferment on our website.

These payments are made based on an assessment of the income and sometimes assets of the applicant, their partner, carer or supporter. The Rural Access Scheme exists to recognise the challenges that are often faced by students from Rural and Remote backgrounds.

Some institutions offer courses with a number of places reserved for applicants from rural and remote backgrounds. This is part of the Rural Access Scheme, designed to support students like you.

CQUniversity (CQU), Griffith University (GU), James Cook University (JCU), The University of Queensland (UQ), University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), and University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) offer a number of places in their highly competitive courses allocated to applicants who are from Rural and Remote backgrounds to study as part of the Rural Access Scheme. This means medicine, dentistry and veterinary science courses are eligible under this scheme.

You are eligible for the RAS if you have lived in Rural and Remote areas of Australia for five years consecutively (60 full months) or ten years cumulatively (120 full months).

Rural and remoteness are determined if you have lived in an Australian Statistical Geographic Remoteness Area category 2 to 7.

You can check your Remoteness Area category by visiting the Health Workforce Locator website. Choose the “Modified Monash model” section and select “2019” as the year when searching for your current or previous permanent home address.

We do not accept the following as evidence:

5 years consecutively means that you have lived rurally for 5 years in a row. For example, from January 2015 to January 2020 would be 5 consecutive years (5 years in a row). You must provide supporting documentation for each year that you lived rurally.

10 years cumulatively means that you have lived in a rural area/s for a total of 10 years at any time across your lifetime. You may have moved back and forth between metropolitan and rural areas, but you can account for a total of 10 years where you lived rurally. You must provide supporting documentation for each period that you lived rurally.

No. To be eligible for the Rural Access Scheme, you must meet the criteria of having lived rurally for five consecutive years or ten years cumulatively at the time of applying. Future dates will not be accepted.

No. Holiday homes, investment properties and secondary residences do not qualify. The Rural Access Scheme is assessed based on your primary residence only.

No. All applicants meeting the minimum eligibility requirements of five years consecutively or ten years cumulatively are considered equally regardless of the amount of time spent in a rural area.
