Course outline

Turn your love of music into a career with this hands-on degree and develop a broad range of coherent, specialised skills and knowledge that will make you stand out in this competitive, global industry. Delivered in partnership with the University of Canberra, this degree will provide students with a thorough grounding in 21st century contemporary music practice. In this course students develop a broad range of coherent skills and knowledge across a variety of areas including music composition, performance, technology and theory. Students will also have the opportunity to collaborate with film makers, musicians, visual artists, actors, and other teams across the broad creative industries spectrum, working on real projects to combine university thinking with hands-on learning. With a focus on nurturing and developing a holistic, creative and entrepreneurial approach to music making, graduates will be provided with the best chance of success in the music industry.

Prerequisites

Completion of Year 12 or attained Year 12 leaving age; Audition

QTAC applications for this program close: 6 December 2024 for semester 1, 2025 entry; and 12 May 2025 for semester 2, 2025 entry. To be considered after these dates, interested applicants should contact TAFE Queensland, South Bank directly on 1300 308 233.

Additional entry requirements

Additional special entry requirements apply to this course. Applicants must satisfy one of the following criteria to be eligible for an offer, a satisfactory live or online audition or a satisfactory written personal reference from your Year 12 high school music teacher with accompanying academic statement or professional resume. TAFE Queensland, South Bank will send out official correspondence inviting submissions once the QTAC application has been submitted.
