Course outline

As a graduate of QUT’s Bachelor of Information Technology, you’ll have broad theoretical and technical knowledge across established and emerging IT disciplines. You’ll understand foundational principles and modern technologies, with analytical and creative skills to identify challenges and design innovative solutions. You’ll think critically and strategically, using modelling and abstraction to present complex systems clearly. You’ll apply your skills to analyse, design, build, operate and maintain secure, sustainable IT systems using industry-standard tools.

You’ll understand how IT enables business outcomes and how business realities shape decisions. With strong business acumen, you’ll align IT strategies with goals, take initiative, and work independently and collaboratively. You’ll embrace new technologies with a growth mindset, manage time effectively, and lead projects. You’ll value diversity, communicate complex ideas clearly, and assess the risks and potential of AI and emerging technologies.

With a human-centric approach, you’ll ensure technology enhances user experience and impacts society positively. You’ll engage with First Nations communities, apply ethical IT practices, and consider cybersecurity, privacy, sustainability and accessibility. Through internships, capstone projects and Work Integrated Learning (WIL), you’ll gain hands-on experience and graduate ready for professional practice.
