Selection for admission into this course is made on the basis of merit. Selection for admission is competitive as the number of applicants is likely to exceed the places available in this course. Applicants with a completed Diploma of Nursing (from an accredited Australian Education Provider) and who are either awaiting or have obtained, unconditional registration (without restrictions) as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2), General with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) may be eligible for Advanced Standing. The allocation of advanced standing for theory and Professional Experience Placement is determined by evidence of your prior study and your EN registration evidence (if applicable).English Language Proficiency Requirements: To practice safely in Australia, health practitioners, including nurses, must have strong English language skills. This includes being able to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, collaborate with other health care professionals and keep clear and accurate health records. The English language skills registration standard is one of the five core standards required under National Law. In preparation for registration and required by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), all new applicants to study the Bachelor of Nursing at TAFE Queensland are to demonstrate English language proficiency, as well as literacy and numeracy skills prior to enrolment. To enrol in this program applicants must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom and United States of America. If you have not met these educational requirements, you are required to provide evidence of an acceptable English language test or evidence that you are currently registered as an Enrolled Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Some applicants who currently hold registration as an Enrolled Nurse may also be required to satisfy English language proficiency requirements. Successful applicants may also be required to complete the Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) assessment and attain competence at or above Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both reading and numeracy before enrolment can be finalised. This is a requirement in accordance with TAFE Queensland and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).
