Course outline

This course prepares students for a career as a podiatrist. The course provides opportunities for students to learn from experienced practitioners while gaining exposure to extensive practical experiences in a variety of clinical settings. Students will develop the necessary skills to assess, diagnose and treat disorders of the foot and lower limb in people of all ages. Education and training explores human anatomy, physiology, pathology, wound care, podiatric therapeutics and students conduct gait and movement analyses in CQU’s biomechanical laboratories. In this course, students will also have the opportunity to fabricate custom made foot orthotic devices in CQU’s fully equipped orthotic laboratories. Practical learning experiences are integral to the course and students will acquire hands-on practical experience treating real patients in the internal CQUniversity Health Clinics and at various external clinical settings. Other requirements

This course involves extensive training in a clinical environment. Practical learning experiences are central to the course and students will need to complete approximately 1000 hours of clinical placement in order to complete the degree. Students will undertake internal placement at the on-site allied health clinic and external placement will occur in a variety of settings. Students must comply with the mandatory pre-clinical placement requirements prior to undertaking placement. English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); Completion of Year 12 or attained age 17 years
