Course outline

Students can prepare for future career success by building a portfolio of arts and science specialisations. They can expand their employment options or combine diverse interests. Alternately, they can tailor their studies toward specific career goals. They can structure their program within each degree component to include majors in areas of interest and a range of electives. Study one or two scientific disciplines to gain a broad knowledge. UQ has one of the broadest selections of science disciplines in Australia. They can then choose subjects in the core disciplines of humanities and social sciences. These help to develop skills in written communication, creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking. Students can choose from more than 80 study areas in the sciences, arts, humanities and more. The skills and knowledge gained are valuable assets in the changing world of work. Some popular combinations include languages and any science major, or archaeological science and anthropology. Other complimentary areas include science and communication or journalism. Or science and criminology, science and music, or psychology and neuroscience. Students may also choose to progress into further research with a one-year Honours program in either Arts or Science.
