The Diploma of Visual Arts is a pathway program designed to help you transition into the Bachelor of Visual Arts. You’ll develop foundational knowledge and skills in a supportive learning environment alongside your peers in the bachelor’s degree, setting you up for success in your future studies. You’ll improve your creative thinking, and communication skills to guide you through the foundations of visual arts practice. Through a mix of critical thinking, innovation and collaboration, you’ll gain the capacity to meet the future demand of many employers. Guided by accomplished artists, art historians and other industry leaders, you’ll learn how international and intercultural perspectives shape the field of contemporary art. In this diploma, you’ll study introductory courses in painting, sculpture,performance and installation, photography, drawing and contemporary Australian Indigenous art. These courses underpin the foundations of our three-year Bachelor of Visual Arts program, and provide an important basis for studio practice or further art historical and curatorial study. Diploma of Visual Arts students will also experience foundation courses on academic writing, communication and digital literacy to help you accomplish your learning and professional goals. Students will have additional support and access to a dedicated First Year Coordinator and Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) run by high-achieving students. Griffith University will commence making offers on 21 November 2025. The Minimum Selection Threshold (ATAR/Selection Rank) for Trimester 1, 2026 entry will be 60.00.
Upon successful completion of this diploma, you will be offered guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Visual Arts.
