Course outline

The Master of Counselling Qualifying pathway enhances students’ counselling skills and knowledge and prepares them for registration as counsellors. Students completing the Master of Counselling via this pathway will, at completion, have met the training requirements for membership with PACFA and the ACA. This pathway has a choice of five specialisations:
• Foundations of Practice
• Addiction
• Child, Youth and Family Therapy
• Mental Health Counselling
• Trauma Focused Practicetice for applicants who are already registered professionals in counselling or related allied mental health fields and thus are not required to meet initial registration requirements. For more program information, visit Master of Counselling at USQ.

Note

Master of Counselling attendance requirements include mandatory residential schools at Ipswich campus and online Synchronous tutorials.

Majors

Master of Counselling (Qualifying): foundations of practice; addiction; child, youth and family therapy; mental health counselling; trauma focused practice.

Other requirements

Master of Counselling students will be required to provide evidence of a Criminal History Check in the form of an Australian Police Certificate. As well as a Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and other mandatory documents required prior to professional clinical placement.

Counselling leads to careers in a range of settings: community health centres, schools and universities, as well as for not-for-profit organisations, commercial organisations, government departments and in private practice.
