Course outline

This course will prepare students to gain the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours essential for contemporary midwifery practice. Grounded in a woman-centred philosophy, this course emphasises continuity of care, cultural safety, and collaborative practice across a diverse range of settings. Clinical learning is a key element of this course and students will be required to undertake 960 hours of clinical placement, engaging with at least ten women during their pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum care journey. This course also places a strong emphasis on developing effective communication and collaboration skills within intra- and interprofessional teams to facilitate safe and inclusive care. Students will be supported to use innovative information technologies and digital health tools, in accordance with professional frameworks, to enhance practice and ensure safe, quality medication management aligned with relevant national standards. Note

Students will be required to attend compulsory residential schools for some units.

Clinical learning is also a key element of the Bachelor of Midwifery and students will be required to undertake a minimum of 960 hours of professional experience placement in a variety of settings with different health organisations. In alignment with healthcare facilities, students must meet specific mandatory health, safety and security requirements to be eligible to attend each professional experience placement. Mandatory Checks for these requirements may take several months to complete. Professional experience placements may be limited in specific locations. This means that students may be placed in other locations and may be required to relocate to complete placements.

This course has strict enrolment requirements. Successful applicants must accept and enrol in units with CQU by the date stated on your offer letter, otherwise your offer will be revoked. This requirement applies irrespective of whether you accepted conditionally or unconditionally in your QTAC application.

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); Completion of Year 12 or attained age 17 years

To be considered for this course, all applicants must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English – including at least two years completed between grades 7 and 12 – in a recognised country.
