The course provides a strong academic foundation focusing on competent, culturally appropriate, evidence based midwifery practice. The practice-based curriculum blends basic and applied sciences with the art of woman-centred midwifery care. Clinical placements ensure that students apply theory to practice in a range of settings, with a focus on practice in rural, remote and tropical contexts. Note

Students who enter in Trimester 3 and enrol full-time will complete the course in 3 years.
Students who enter in Trimester 1 and enrol part-time will complete the course in 4 years and 2 Trimesters.
Students who enter in Trimester 3 and enrol part-time will complete the course in 5 years.

Other requirements

Prior to taking professional placements, students must provide evidence of immunity to hepatitis B, MMR, varicellla, and pertussis, and current Provide First Aid and CPR certificates. Students must complete all professional experience placement requirements by the prescribed deadlines and maintain currency of these requirements in order to stay admitted in the course. A Suitability Card is required and an Australian Federal Police check may be required; refer to institution.

Prerequisites

Completion of Year 12 or attained age 18 years

Additional entry requirements

To enrol in this program, English must be your primary language and you must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one or more of the following countries; Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom, United States of America. If you do not meet this criteria, you will be required to provide evidence of an acceptable English Language test. For more information see English Language Proficiency.
