Course outline

Interested in animal science, veterinary bioscience or the health of animal populations but want flexibility in how you get there? The Animal and Veterinary Bioscience Major within JCU’s Bachelor of Science offers a rigorous, discipline-specific pathway into one of Australia’s most dynamic and growing fields. Grounded in the same foundational curriculum as JCU’s veterinary degree, this major gives students a strong scientific base in animal health and welfare, disease control, production systems and environmental sustainability — while opening doors to careers in research, animal industries, government, wildlife management and more. High-achieving students may also apply to transfer into the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) degree at the end of their second year, making this major a genuine and structured pathway into veterinary science for motivated students.
