5 years Full time
Students will learn to diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases and injuries in animals. They develop their treatment skills across companion, domestic, exotic, wildlife, and production animals. Students access specialist animal facilities at UQ’s Gatton Campus and gain skills and knowledge in veterinary medicine, surgery, anaesthesia and radiology. They will also develop expert animal handling and clinical skills and spend their final year in hospitals and clinics. Their comprehensive biomedical training may lead to careers in research, industry, and government. On graduation, students are eligible to register as a veterinary science practitioner in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, or Malaysia. The University of Queensland
Students must pass all courses for any given semester to progress to the next semester and must take vacation practical work. Students are exposed to animals and agricultural environments as part of their learning. Immunisations against Q fever and tetanus is mandatory, and students will be required to provide evidence of immunisation upon commencement of the program
